Gum disease
No one is immune to gum disease. It can happen at any time, without warning! The first stage of gum disease is called gingivitis. This inflammation of the gums is caused by plaque and tartar. Although there is no pain at this stage of the disease, you may experience bleeding of the gums when brushing and flossing, red and swollen gums, and bad breath. Fortunately, gingivitis is easily treated, and its progression can be stopped. In fact, all you have to do is visit us regularly and follow good oral hygiene to prevent it!
If gingivitis is neglected, it will inevitably progress to periodontitis. Unfortunately, this stage of gum disease is irreversible and can lead to tooth loss. Periodontitis is actually a deep inflammation of the gums and supporting bone. It causes damage to the bone tissue that supports the roots of the teeth. This is why it is important to visit us regularly for a professional exam and cleaning.
